THE PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES

BE AT PEACE

Do not look forward in fear to the changes in life;
rather, look to them with full hope that as they arise,
God, whose very own you are,
will lead you safely through all things;
and when you cannot stand it,
God will carry you in His arms.

Do not fear what may happen tomorrow;
the same understanding Father who cares for
you today will take care of you then and every day.

He will either shield you from suffering
or will give you unfailing strength to bear it.
Be at peace, and put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations.

SPIRITUALITY

The Visitation Associate Community is a living embodiment of St. Francis de Sales and St. Jane de Chantal’s experience that the devout life can be lived in every walk of life.

“be who you are and be that well, to give honor to the Master Craftsman whose handiwork you are.” ~St. Francis de Sales

Salesian Spirituality developed out of the life and teachings of Saints Francis de Sales and Jane de Chantal. It developed out of De Sales’ experience as Bishop of a small diocese and advisor to a wide variety of people who were interested in living out their faith in their daily lives. Most of his advice was given through letters of spiritual direction written in his spare time that was later collected and published in his classic work “Introduction to the Devout Life.” They continue to guide all those seeking to live out their baptismal commitment by “Living Jesus” in all aspects of their life. The following concepts below provide a basic idea of ” Salesian Spirituality.” All people are called to holiness, not just a select few. Devout Life is:

  • RELATIONAL
  • ALL LIVED THROUGH LOVE
  • HUMBLE
  • GENTLE
  • RESPECTFUL
  • LIVED IN THE PRESENT MOMENT
  • OPTIMISTIC

THE PRAYER OF SAINT FRANCIS DE SALES

O Holy Mother of the children of God! When shall I rest in your immortal arms? Our souls should be wholly consumed by this desire. But I will restrain myself and peacefully await the hour which the divine Savior has destined for me, to overwhelm me with that bliss. In the meantime let us have only one desire, to please Him by doing His holy will in all things. What God wishes for us, let it be done: we are His for time and eternity. Amen.
